Are Exams Useless?
One of my friends in Xanga said that exams serve only to find the weaknesses of students and then give them remedial lessons. He also said that without exams, we can still survive. But I do not agree with him.
Yes, exams do give pressure and stress to students. But without exams, how can we find who are the suitable people for doing something. In fact, in my opinion, exams not only find the weaknesses of students and then give them remedial lessons, but also help find the strength of students. And as far as I know with my experience, students find themselves happy and satisfied when they find that they have done well and get good results. They are contented with what they have tried.
Without exams, how can a boss find a suitable staff? Without exams, how can the colleges accept the suitable students to take their course.
I don't mean to make anyone unhappy. I just want to voice my view.

Well, exams are a hassle for teachers as well! But I agree, exams are necessary, although I believe in comprehensive exams rather than those divided by terms.

@choyshinglin - I can't see the difference between qualifying exams and competitive exams. Can you elaborate more. Are there any exams that don't show qualification? Are there any exams that are not competitive?
@chowkhushi - A driving test is not competitive. A progress test is not competitive. You just want to know how much you know and how much you don't know. It also depends on how the result is made used of. If it is used to rank people so that those who rank higher get more resource etc, than it is a competitive exam.
@choyshinglin - But you have the competition of yourself. If you do not go through the test, how can you drive legally on the road. If you don't want to have progression, how come you take part in the exam? You would like to get higher rank so that you take part in the exams.
There is no need to know the result if we only live in the world alone. We don't need to know how much we know. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO RANKS.
