  • New School Year

    New school year has commenced.

This year, I teach S4, S5 English Language and S6 Use of English.  I also have to teach Liberal Studies, which is a very interesting subject.

Most of my former S3 students are in my class in S4.  I missed them much in summer.  6 of my former students in S3 are promoted to other (better) classes.  I am so glad that they come to meet me whenever they have time.  Hope that they can adapt the new class easily soon.

The S5 class, still those students.  But this year, some of them in S4 have left school.  Hope that they study hard this year as this is the final year for them to have the old syllabus.  If they fail in the exam, they have to repeat with the new syllabus.

To my surprise, there are 40 students in my S6 class, too big a class.  But most of them have good English foundation.  I haven't taught any one of them before but I know of of them.

Wish all of them a successful year.

  • Back to School

After almost 2 months and now back to school for meetings.

There are too many meetings.  Is it good to have meetings?  I don't know.  Sometimes it is useful as we can draw the conclusion.  But sometimes it is a waste of time as no one wants to give any suggestion.

5  more days and I can see my students again.  Hope that there will not be any school suspension owing to H1N1 Flu.

  • Back to School for a while

It's been a month that I haven't updated my Xanga.

I have been to Korea for two weeks after distributing report cards to students.  It was a very nice trip even though it rained a lot.  We went hiking twice during the trip and it was wonderful.   We met two helpful guys who drove up back to the down town after the hiking.

Yesterday, I went back to school to distribute the HKCEE results to students.  They did quite well.  Even though I did not teach them, I am proud of them.  But a bit unhappy as some of them prefer to change their school.

Still miss my daughter.  Don't know how she is.

  • IS IT FAIR???

    A year leaps again.

Today there will be two meetings.  The first one will be held in the morning at 10:30.  We have to decide whether we have to promote those who do not match the 20-50-C policy.  In fact some of the students in my class got 49 for the average and they will be asked to repeat.  But they have tried their best already.  Sometimes I don't know if it is a good idea to force for them to repeat.

In the afternoon, the meeting concerns how to allocate students into different classes.  To certain extend, it is a good idea to group students of the same ability in the same class.  In this way, it will be easier for teachers to teach.  But is it fair for those students who are not that bright to stay in the same class?  Will they be labelled that they are weak?  How will they feel?  Is it fair for the teachers who have been teaching their students for one or two years and then they are reallocated to other classes and that they have to teach those weak students?   Do you think they will be happy?  Who knows.
